Incredibly Realistic TEENAGE MUTANT NINJA TURTLES Concept Art by Aaron Sims Company

Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles (2014) concept art by the Aaron Sims Company

Check out Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles (2014) concept art by the Aaron Sims Company!

The Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles movie reboot is a hit and Aaron Sims Company has kindly sent me concept art from the film that shows the development of the four "heroes in a half-shell" and a press release that talks about the making of the film.

Though the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles names have changed - Michelangelo ("Mikey"), Donatello ("Donnie"), Raphael ("Raph") and Leonardo ("Leo") - the team worked hard to honor the original characters. Aaron Sims Company kindly provided an interview what it was like working on the film and some high-res illustrations from the movie design.

Aaron Sims Company is a design, previsualization and visual effects studio who've worked on blockbusters like G.I. Joe: Retaliation (2013), Dawn of the Planet of the Apes (2014) and Transformers: Dark of the Moon (2011)

"Aaron Sims Company (ASC) is grateful to have been able to work so closely with director Jonathan Liebesman and producer Michael Bay to create these iconic characters, Michelangelo, Donatello, Raphael and Leonardo, who many of our artists grew up with, making it a dream come true for ASC. The way the Turtles and Splinter will look on screen is essentially one to one in terms of ASC’s design, as are the majority of the ancillary characters. The best part of this process was embracing the original characters to design the Turtles, their supporting characters, and nemeses from the ground up. It was a tough but rewarding challenge to be able to problem-solve and give each character his own personality, making them all look very unique in their facial expressions and body movements. The assets ASC created were eventually used for previs and animation, then in production, moving on to VFX at ILM to the final visual showcase you’ll see on screen. ASC’s team of talented artists, including Jared Krichevsky , Joshua Min, Luca Nemolato, Cameron Ward, Tsvetomir Tsenov Georgiev, Francesco Corvino, Kelton Cram, and others spent almost two years designing for this film and are happy that the designs seem to be translating well for many fans of the classic original TMNT.

"Later on this year, you’ll be able to see ASC’s designs in Sin City: A Dame to Kill For and Jupiter Ascending.

"In addition to concept design, Aaron Sims is getting into producing more original content through Apollo Pictures, his production company. As a follow-up to his well-received 2012 short “Archetype,” fans will be excited to know that Aaron will be directing another original sci-fi short by the end of 2014."

Krang, Rock Steady and Bebop concept art were not sent by Aaron Sims Company and have been removed by request of the studio.

Wonderfully Moody TEENAGE MUTANT NINJA TURTLES Storyboards by Charles Ratteray

Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles (2014) storyboards by Charles Ratteray

Check out Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles storyboards by Charles Ratteray!

The Michael Bay reboot of the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles franchise is a hit. Paramount Film Group President Adam Goodman said that "launching a new take on the 'Turtles' into the feature film world was a daunting task" that paid off. He told Deadline Hollywood, "We felt a great responsibility to ensure audiences were going to experience everything they loved about the 'Turtles,' while also getting to see them brought to life in a way they had never been seen before. The result exceeded our high expectations and the response to the film is beyond great, making it all the more fun to get started on the continuation of their story." So, a sequel set for June 3, 2016. Till then, we can see storyboards of one key scene that had the turtles meeting with April O'Neil (Megan Fox). One of the skilled storyboard artists on the film, Charles Ratteray, recently shared some storyboards on his Facebook page and they're awesome. I love the anime style that reminds me of the original comic books.

Charles Ratteray is a Los Angeles based professional concept and storyboard artist who's worked on big budget projects like Firefly (2002), Battlestar Galactica and Buffy the Vampire Slayer (1997).
